Eastern Avenue Parking Facility

Chelsea, Massachusetts

East Ave. ParkingThe Eastern Avenue Parking Facility is a 1550 car parking facility under long term lease to MassPort providing short and long term parking for Logan Airport Airline and MassPort Employees. This facility is a five story, post tensioned, re-enforced concrete structure containing 14,000 yards custom designed concrete placed during the winter months. This facility was developed during the time when The City of Chelsea was in receivership. The project assisted Chelsea in stimulating its local economy through economic development of underutilized and environmentally contaminated sites. The project team included Turner Construction, Add Inc., Walker Parking Consultants and McNamara Salvia.

Construction commences on a 1550 car parking facility for Massport in Chelsea during its resurgence from receivership.

Over four hundred piles are driven 100 feet into the earth. The structure is designed as post tensioned, reinforced concrete.

The 5 story structure begins to rise. The custom form systems allow for the project team to save two months on the schedule.

The post tensioned, reinforced concrete employed over 250 union workers, carpenters, laborers and masons during the construction.

The concrete placements were composed of building fifths. The winter conditions required encapsulation for curing strength.

More than 14,000 cubic yards of concrete were placed during the winter. The form systems are specially designed to allow for multiple concrete scheduling.

The exterior design evolved with public input for reducing the massing and scale. The pre-cast panels varied to address the residential neighborhood.
